WHAT WE DO : Projects

The 4th Grade students at High Tech Elementary have embarked on an amazing journey of self discovery. Camp Synergy is a project designed by the 4th grade team at HTe to build a strong culture of respect, empathy, courage, trust, teamwork and independence. Throughout the first 3 weeks of school these students will be learning a variety of camping skills that will help them build strong relationships and become independent and interdepenedent. These skills are called badges and include: first aid, story telling, camp chanting, pitching tents, meal planning, rolling sleeping bags, and the science of S'mores to name a few. The 4th Grade team of students and teachers will be adventuring to William Heis Campground in Julian,CA where they will get to demonstrate their knowledge gained at the 1st annual Camp Synergy Campout. This event is scheduled for September 18th- 20th, 2013.

Being a Californian means so much to many of us.  In this study of California, students will be exploring three aspects of California: California History, California Innovations, and California Natural Resources.  Students will be designing an Amazing Race: California Edition for their parents to participate in our end of year summer exhibition. This game will have parents watching student generated videos and will include challenges for parents to participate in. Fortunately, ALL participants are winners; parents and students!
In order to personalize this project, students will also be writing an essay that describes their family history and what it means to them to be a Californian.

During this 11 week project students will investigate the properties of flight by studying Monarch Butterflies. We will strive to answer the essential question, How do Butterflies Stay in the Air? Each week we will study a new property of flight and the students will investigate these properties through a variety of science experiments. As an added element students will also learn what it takes to become a Citizen Scientist while assisting with Monarch Butterfly Conservation efforts.
